Training
Safe to Grow offers several learning and development programmes for a range of professionals and bespoke programmes to meet individual need.
Each programme is designed for a full day, but can be adapted to half a day or shorter bite-size sessions. Additional post-session group or individual supervision can be included to further embed learning in practice. Click on the arrows for an overview of the trainings and learning outcomes.

The session is for professionals working alongside children who are seeking asylum, such as Social Workers, Police Officers, Youth Justice Workers and others.
Learning outcomes:
Understand pre, peri and post flight experiences
Understand and apply relevant legislation, policy and guidance to working with unaccompanied children
Apply knowledge of systems and processes to help unaccompanied children successfully navigate them
Understand the impacts of migration and trauma and ways of working with children to aid positive mental health, wellbeing and belonging
Create safe spaces for unaccompanied children to develop and grow

The session is for foster carers, supported lodgings providers and residential workers caring for children who are seeking asylum.

This session is for Social Workers undertaking Age Assessments and other professionals who are interested in guiding individuals through the process, including Appropriate Adults.
Learning outcomes:Understand the impacts of Age Assessment on an age disputed individual and how to undertake ethical and holistic assessments that meet needs
Understand the policy and guidance relevant to undertaking an Age Assessment
Understand who can undertake Age Assessments, including the role of the National Age Assessment Board
Understand and apply good practice principles, including Merton Compliant guidance, and guidance produced by the British Association of Social Workers (BASW)
Understand and apply effective, timely and holistic assessment skills, utilising different evidence from a range of sources
Understand the role of an Appropriate Adult in Age Assessment
Understand the process for challenging an Age Assessment

Understand and advocate for ways in which harm can be disrupted
Understand the impacts of trafficking and how to aid positive mental health and wellbeing
Create safe spaces for children who have been trafficked to develop and grow

This session is for National Referral Mechanism (NRM) First Responders and professionals interested in the NRM process.
Learning outcomes:Understand and apply the legislation and guidance relevant to submitting a referral into the NRM
Understand the benefits of the NRM for children and adults and related rights and entitlements
Understand and gather relevant information to support an NRM referral
Understand and apply effective assessment and report writing skills to ensure the submission of high quality NRM referrals
Understand the intersection between NRM and immigration processes
Understand the process for requesting a reconsideration of an NRM decision and how to gather additional information to submit
Understand and implement the process for young people transitioning to 18 years to remain in the NRM with informed consent
